Tioga Pass Resort

June 23-26, 1998. Spent a few days at Tioga Pass Resort with Eric and Elizabeth. Highway 120 was still closed through Yosemite National Park so I had to drive over Sonora Pass. Not a terrible thing, it's beautiful. Still lots of snow up there. Down in Bridgeport, Spring is arriving. Saw fields of native iris blooming.

There was still so much snow that hiking off road was impossible. Even this late there were three to five feet of snow everywhere. So we had to content ourselves with just looking. (E&E had brought snowshoes but only two pair.)

The highlight of the trip was soaking in hot springs outside Mammoth, about a half hour down Highway 395 from Lee Vining. The springs were out in the desert really in the middle of nowhere. It was an incredibly clear night with a new moon, so the stars were spectacular, lots of shooting stars too. It was so quiet out there you could hear nothing but the stars themselves.

That same morning. Nothing beats morning coffee on a warm rock!
